Head to Istria for stories of folklore and fairy-tales. This summer Pican, an idyllic town which in 1962 was declared a cultural monument plays host to a festival of folklore, tales, legends and myths, in its 10th anniversary this year, this is one not to be missed for you history buffs.
Soundwave Festival - for the music lovers
This festival is known as Europe's most friendly and intimate festival. 2015 will be its 7th year and brings in a new dimension in the form of a developed live art and film programme to its eclectic musical offering. A different take on a standard festival, Soundwave combines visual arts and entertainment all in the stunning backdrop of the Dalmatian Islands.
In a splendid re-enactment of ancient rule, this festival lasts 4 nights and comprises of a celebration of Croatian history with gladiator performances, singers and street music. Dig and delve into a Roman feast tasting delicacies from natural local ingredients as prepared according to traditional old recipes.
Last Minute Open Jazz Festival - for the jazz fans
If a bit of jazz is your thing then this festival is a must. Bale plays host to this eclectic festival, where you can sit and listen to some stunning scores all in some spectacular surroundings.
Outlook Festival - for the dance music lovers
This festival is the largest Soundsystem Culture festival in Europe. It brings together the biggest names from the most vibrant and cutting edge dance scenes around. For 4 days at the end of summer in an abandoned fort perched above the Adriatic Sea in Pula you can experience a festival like no other. Don't miss out on the chance to party to every type of music imaginable all in one place, on the sun soaked islands of Croatia.
Giostra Festival - for the culture vultures
With over 250 participants in traditional costumes, who throughout the 3 days evoke for spectators life in the Baroque period thus making this a unique festival in Croatia. This cultural, educational and historical spectacle stems from a knight tournament held in Porec in 1745 and has a wide variety of historical facts and visual aids for those watching on, another must see for those wanting a bit of culture.
Grisia Art Show - for the artists
If you prefer art to music then Grisia is the one for you. Grisia is in its 48th year, attracting over 240 artists who display their artwork all along these now famous streets. Be it on the walls of buildings, window shutters or on the uneven stone steps, visitors and art aficionados alike won't be short on pieces to look at and admire, all the while falling in love with the beautiful town of Grisia while there.
