The Best Teen Family Sailing Holiday Destinations
The best sailing area for families with teens
The Dalmation Islands of Croatia have grown exponentially in popularity over the last 10 years. Along with brilliant culture these (numerous) islands offer a great nightlife within an environment that is otherwise a brilliant escape from everyday life at home. So in short the Dalmation Islands offers the best of both worlds - stunning bays and quiet coves are interspersed with (relatively) large towns with a buzzing evening entertainment. For this reason we think this is one of the best sailing areas for families with teens.
The weather in Croatia is slightly cooler than Greece and Turkey making it great in the peak summer months. The weather is generally settled but the wind can pick up so we recommend Croatia for slightly older families or more capable sailors.
The main perks in brief: Great culture, buzzing nightlife, great sailing!
The second area we recommend for teens is the Sporades Islands in Greece. This area offers the fabulous and elusive combination of great wind and flat seas! It is also home to a national marine park and a number of completely uninhabited islands. In between these pockets of tranquility are the bustling islands of Skiathos and Skopelos. Both islands have brilliant towns with a great nightlife, offering teens a chance to explore without wondering too far!
Skopelos island also offers the chance to explore the famous Mamma Mia church, nestled on a rocky outcrop, on the east side of the island. We hear this is a pretty popular place for teenage girls (and Mum's alike!) to explore. If you aren't an Abba fan, the walk to the top is still well worth it, purely for the stunning view!
The main perks in brief: Fabulous sailing, good nightlife, tranquil bays.
