Sailing Holidays in the North Ionian Islands

We have been sailing in the north Ionian Islands for over 40 years and it remains one of our favourite destinations. With its light winds and crystal clear waters it is an ideal place to introduce family and friends to sailing. The North Ionian offers a mixture of island hopping and mainland coastal sailing from our main base in Corfu.

Where can we sail from?

Gouvia 1 2 1000x618

Our base in Corfu is Gouvia Marina. Gouvia is a fantastic purpose built marina in a natural harbour with fantastic facilities. From the basic toilets, showers, water and shore power to the swimming pool, shop and a selection of cafes, bars and restaurants.

Sit back and enjoy a cold beer by the pool at the Blue Bar or enjoy a greek feast at Argos Taverna on the waterfront. Gouvia is a brilliant place from which to start and finish your holiday.

Another perk sailing from Gouvia Marina is it's proximity to Corfu Airport, a mere 15 minutes away. This means you can wake up at home and be sat sipping a well earned G&T by the water by lunchtime!

So, tell me what's the weather and wind like?

Average Temperature in Corfu in the summerThe Ionian Islands are known for their gorgeous summers and light winds. The prevailing wind during the peak summer is extremely calm mornings, building to a very manageable north west Force 3-4, by mid-afternoon.

At the beginning and end of the season (May & October), the weather can be slightly more changeable, meaning that good wind is more common.

You can expect temperatures of around 30°C during July/August with it dropping to around 23°C in May and October.

Are there any hidden surprises?

The beauty of sailing in Greece is that you will often find there are no mooring fees when staying on a town quay. If the local port authorities do come along and ask you to pay, then you can expect no more than €10, for a 40ft yacht.
